Dr. Karen Barnes is a Threat Assessment Consultant for ACAP Solutions. Dr. Barnes had the privilege of working in public education for 25 years primarily in the areas of mental health and school safety prior to focusing solely on Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management. Recognizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach to school safety, Karen received her Ph.D. in Social Work with a Criminal Justice specialization, where the majority of her work focused on adolescent mental health. She currently is also licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). Professionally, her passion is working with others to develop effective strategies to identify young people who may be at risk of committing acts of violence and provide effective interventions to change their life trajectory. Personally, Karen enjoys spending time with her family including her husband, their three children and four grandsons.
